    What is LUS 2026?

The 7th International Workshop on Laser-Ultrasound for Metals will be held at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada from May 21 to 22, 2026.

This workshop is continuing from previous workshops held at the University of British Columbia (Canada, 1st and 2nd), the metals research institute Swerim (former Swerea Kimab, Sweden, 3rd and 6th), RECENDT in Linz (Austria, 4th), and CentraleSupélec in Paris (France, 5th).

    Scope

The workshop will be designed as a discussion forum on advancements in laser ultrasonics for metallurgy. The topics include but are not limited to

    • Metallurgy and materials characterization (in-situ/off-line)
      • Evaluation of microstructure (grain size, texture, etc.)
      • Monitoring of recrystallization, phase transformation
      • Determination of physical parameters
      • Thin film characterization
    • Defect detection and imaging
    • Modelling and simulation of wave propagation in complex media
    • Industrial applications of monitoring microstructures with laser-ultrasonics

    Invited Speakers

    Mikael Malmström (Swerim, Sweden)

    Clemens Grünsteidl (RECENDT, Austria)
